The Seahorse was the first image to inspire The Adventures of Caroline and the Time Machine. But it does not present itself as a creature in the storyline until later in the book. It was originally designed by Elena while in her 2nd grade art class to be put onto a water bottle as part of a school project. It eventually became the cover idea for The Adventures of Caroline and the Time Machine.
